Description | Fourier-Transformed InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy is a well-defined technique for material characterization. Because compounds are arranged in a unique combination of atoms, no two compounds produce the exact same InfraRed (IR) spectrum. Therefore, IR spectroscopy can result in a positive identification (qualitative analysis) of functional groups and combinations of groups in organic molecules. Additionally, the intensity of the peaks measured on these unique spectra are directly correlated to the amount of that material present within the sample. The Center’s Bruker Tenor 27 has several reconfigurable accessories that allow for a variety of sample measurements.
