71	The wet lab (cadaver anatomy lab)	Institute: University of Sri Jayewardenepura Faculty: Faculty of Medical Sciences Department: Anatomy	Address: Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Gangodawila, Nugegoda Phone: 0716090858 Email: edirisinghe@sjp.ac.lk	× University of Sri Jayewardenepura The wet lab (cadaver anatomy lab) The wet lab (cadaver anatomy lab) is located in the Anatomy building, a very short walk from and right across the street from the main administration building of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.  The laboratory complex composed of a cadaver preservation area and two dissection halls features 22 dissection tables, LED Screens, an audio system, plastinated specimens, and computer software where dissection outlines, atlas images, or additional anatomical resources can be displayed to aid in dissection.  There are also portable cameras so that cadaver findings at one table can be “broadcast” through the LED screens as needed.   The dissection hall is used for routine undergraduate dissections and hands-on training sessions of postgraduate surgical courses on wet specimens. Postgraduate hands-on training sessions on cadavers are conducted with the objective of training to improve practical skills or learn new surgical techniques through interactive case discussions, an open approach to innovations, and the introduction of new techniques. In the cadaver preservation areas the cadavers are preserved under different methods depending on the requirement.

It is equipped with adequate facilities for conducting practical sessions and research in the fields of molecular Biology, microbiology and plant tissue culture. Facilities available in the laboratory are used to conduct the practical sessions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B.Sc. Agriculture and B.Sc. Biosystem Engineering degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management and for the practical courses offered by the department to 1st year undergraduates from Faculty of Livestock Fisheries and Nutrition, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka .  Department of Biotechnology offers teacher training programmes for school teachers who are teaching advanced level Biology and school students under the stream of A/L Biology to cover practical components of Molecular biology section in the A/L Biology curriculum and biotechnology laboratory facilities are utilized to conduct these practical sessions. Furthermore, final year undergraduate research projects of the biotechnology specializing students of the Department and postgraduate research in the fields of Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Plant Tissue Culture are being conducted utilizing the facilities available at the Biotechnology laboratory.
